Kim Kardashian sparks outrage with ‘tone deaf’ decision to wear iconic necklace

Kim Kardashian has faced backlash for donning a contentious piece of royal jewelry on the red carpet.

The celebrity acquired the 'Attallah Cross' in 2023 for nearly $200,000, but many fans have called the decision 'tone deaf'.

She flaunted the necklace on the red carpet at the 2024 LACMA Art + Film Gala on Saturday (November 2) in Los Angeles.

The mum-of-four complemented the iconic necklace with a daring white gown, which some considered 'audacious'.

The controversy erupted because the necklace was famously worn by the late Princess Diana for a charity event in 1987, and she sported the antique amethyst necklace on several occasions.

This isn't the first instance of Kim wearing iconic pieces that belonged to esteemed women.

She famously wore Marilyn Monroe's 'Happy Birthday Mr. President' dress to the Met Gala in 2022, drawing similar criticism for her choices.

After she wore the necklace, which consists of 900 pearls, people quickly expressed their opinions on her bold decision.

One person remarked: "She desperately wants a connection to the Royal Family."

Another commented: "If you're going to wear such a sacred religious symbol, at least wear it with the grace Diana did. Show some respect..."

A third person noted: "She had the audacity to pair it with that dress."

"Utterly tone deaf, uneducated, and narcissistic," another critic wrote.

However, some defended the star, noting that she indeed owns the piece.

One supporter stated: "I don't see anything offensive here. She owns the necklace now, doesn't she?"

Another agreed, saying: "It's cool, where's the offense?"

"It's her property now, so why should it be offensive? Do what you want with your own belongings," added another.

Yet, one detractor claimed it wasn't what 'Diana would have wanted' for the necklace.

They elaborated: "I find Kim Kardashian wearing Princess Diana's cross a distasteful display of wealth, power, and ignorance."

"There's no way this is what Diana would have wanted."

One commenter disagreed, adding: "Diana seemed like a gentle and kind woman. I believe she would approve of Kim expressing herself."

"I don't think she would criticize women for wearing more revealing clothing than she did."
