Travis Kelce’s ‘obscene gesture’ during game lands him $14,491 fine

Travis Kelce has experienced a financial setback after being fined by the NFL for making 'obscene gestures'.

The Kansas City Chiefs star was competing against the Philadelphia Eagles when the gesture occurred, as reported by NBC Sports.

Taylor Swift's fiancé also recently caught attention with his choice of attire during practice sessions.

The decision to penalize Kelce follows the NFL's earlier announcement this year that they would be intensifying their efforts against gestures and actions that are deemed 'unsportsmanlike, violent, and sexually suggestive', aiming to enhance the game's family-friendly appeal.

Regrettably for Kelce, he got caught up in the excitement of the moment, despite the Chiefs eventually losing the game 20-17 on September 14.

The controversial gesture occurred when Kelce celebrated a 23-yard gain by gesturing towards his groin area in what some described as 'an animated fashion'.

Although officials did not notice his action, the higher-ups at the NFL did, resulting in a £14,491 fine.

However, for Kelce, this fine is relatively insignificant considering he reportedly earns an average of $17.25 million per year just from playing football.

This figure does not include any potential sponsorship or advertising deals.

He wasn't the only player to face a fine; fellow Eagles superstar Saquon Barkley was penalized $46,371 for unnecessary roughness/use of the helmet.

After news of the fine emerged, one fan humorously commented: "They should only be able to fine you if they describe in practical terms what the player did with super clarification, LOL"

"Are you f****** kidding me? These fines are getting ridiculous," added another fan, while one remarked: "So he was fined for celebrating a catch? Got it."

"That’s considered obscene in the NFL?" questioned another, while someone joked: "Imagine getting fined for an amount you make in 15 seconds."

"I don't like Travis, but this is ridiculous. These are grown men playing a sport; if he wants to make that gesture, he should be allowed to," insisted one viewer.

Kelce's fiancée Taylor Swift recently drew attention when she attended a game at Arrowhead Stadium to support him, but was spotted walking behind a rolling black shield.

Some speculated it was for privacy, while others suggested it was a security measure and a bulletproof screen following the assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk.

According to TMZ, the barrier 'is a bullet-resistant portable shield partition that retails for about $6,000.'
