Snoop Dogg has voiced his disapproval of a film's portrayal of LGBTQ+ characters after taking his grandson to see a Pixar movie, admitting that a particular aspect of the story ‘caught [him] off guard’.
The 53-year-old rapper, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., recently appeared on the It’s Giving podcast to discuss his marriage with Shante Broadus, parenting his four children, and the topic of masculinity.
During the discussion, Snoop Dogg shared that he once took one of his seven grandchildren to the cinema to watch the 2022 Pixar film, Lightyear.
This animated action-adventure film focuses on the character Buzz Lightyear, known from Toy Story as an action figure.

Lightyear is notable as the first Pixar film to include a same-gender kiss between Hawthorne (voiced by Uzo Aduba) and her wife, which led to its ban in cinemas across the United Arab Emirates due to 'violating the country's media content standards'.
Hawthorne and her partner are also portrayed as having a child in the children’s movie—a creative choice that Snoop Dogg specifically criticized.
In response to host Sarah Fontenot's remarks about women becoming more masculine and men more feminine, which she expressed disapproval of, Snoop replied: “What you see is what you see, and they're putting it everywhere.

"Why, my grandson in the middle of the movie like: 'Papa Snoop, how does she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!’
“Oh s**t - I didn’t come here for this s**t," Snoop continued. "I just came to watch the movie.”
Yet his grandson persisted, asking: "'They just said she and she had a baby — they're both women. How does she have a baby?'"

The ‘Gin and Juice’ hitmaker expressed that the experience ‘messed [him] up'.
“I'm now apprehensive about going to the movies. They’re putting me in the middle of situations I don't have answers for.
"It completely surprised me. I was like: 'What part of the movie was this?’”
Snoop admitted that he lacked ‘answers’ when faced with questions about the LGBTQ+ community.

"These are kids. Do we have to introduce this at such a young age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.”
Many people have engaged in discussions about Snoop's comments, with one YouTube user writing: "The complaints about that Lightyear movie having a lesbian scene never fail to show how absurd the backlash was/still is.
"The scene merely depicts one of them holding a baby and having their arms around each other.

"It never suggests that two women created the baby. It's no surprise these individuals don't want these scenes or to explain anything to their children, despite that literally being part of parenting.
"They're too uninformed to explain anything in the first place."
Another person commented: "What a disappointing perspective on the lesbian couple. It’s 2025 & you’re still being homophobic?"
"Does he not understand what adoption is?" someone else remarked.
Chris Evans, who provides the voice for Lightyear’s main character, has previously referred to critics of the same-sex kiss as ‘ignorant’.
"Every time there’s progress socially, as we evolve, the American story, the human story is one of constant social awakening and growth, and that’s what makes us strong," he told Reuters.
"There will always be those who are fearful and uninformed, clinging to the past.”
He continued: “But those people eventually fade away like dinosaurs. The goal is to ignore them, push forward, and embrace the growth that defines us as humans."
